Marigold for Fall

Jeez, I feel like this week has flown by.  Which is weird because other than Halloween, I feel like I really haven’t had much going on (I say “other than Halloween” like it isn’t my favorite holiday ever, but whatever).  I think this time of year starts to slip away quickly for me because I usually spend all of October stressing about making my Halloween costume (that I literally bearly got to wear this year… kinda bitter… don’t want to talk about it) perfect, and then move right into being stressed all of November about what’s happening for Thanksgiving/Black Friday shopping, which turns into me stressing all of December because I don’t know what to get anyone for Christmas (even though I really do know what to get them, I just like to make things more difficult than they really are.  It’s true, just ask Anna).  However I am trying to relax a little this upcoming week before I really start getting Holiday fever and am buzzing around a million miles an hour for two straight months!

Now I know I just said this in the last post, but I seriously can’t believe it is already November. Mainly because it still like 85 degrees in South Carolina and the leaves are taking forever to change colors/fall.  It’s kind of upsetting, but at the same time, I don’t know why I am surprised… I’ve lived here my whole life (and if there is on thing about SC you need to know, it is that the weather loves to play tricks on you).  I’ve been having to trick myself into remembering that it is actually half way through Fall.  So on days that it is literally just too damn hot to wear a thick sweater, I usually try to stick to colors that give off that Fall vibe.  For me, Fall colors usually consist of garnets, olive greens, and creams, however you can really only wear so many of these colors before you start having to venture out and find alternatives.  One color I’ve really had my eye on this season is Marigold.  It is the prettiest mix of yellow and orange and makes me think of leaves falling in the mountains (I’m sorry, I don’t know why I got so descriptive there… I clearly feel some type of way).  I’ve mostly seen sweaters in this color and have yet to get my hands on one that I loved so when I found this dress I knew I had to give it a try!

I’ve always had a very strong “no yellow” rule when it comes to my wardrobe.  It’s just a color that I’ve always found impossible for myself to pull off.  It just doesn’t mesh well with my skin tone and tends to make my hair look way more yellow than it should.  With that being said, I think I’ve finally found a shade of yellow I can wear and be happy with!    I found this dress not too long ago at Plato’s Closet (if you haven’t caught on yet, Anna and I do a lot of our shopping there).  I wasn’t so sure at first because of the fact that I’ve pretty much imprinted in my brain that I don’t wear yellow, but I’ve been trying really hard to get out of my own head and try new things.  I’m so glad did this for this dress!  The color ended up being perfect and I’m absolutely obsessed with the crochet detailing at the top.  All of this being said, don’t be surprised if you see a little more yellow (mainly marigold, at least for now) popping up in future blog posts!
