Edisto Beach Food Tour

Welcome to my home away from home.  Well at least the food portion of it!  I have been going to Edisto Beach since, well actually before I was born (there is photo evidence of my mom pregnant with me while hanging out on the beach) so it is easily one of my all time favorite places to visit and definitely my favorite beach to visit in South Carolina.  With the beach comes seafood so majority of these options are going to be seafood but I did make sure to throw in a few non-seafood options for y’all.  One of the newer restaurants on the island is a BBQ restaurant (which just so happens to be my all time favorite food).

Before we get started I have a couple of suggestions/pro tips for y’all as far as when to eat and things to do at the restaurants.  A lot of restaurants on the island are getting better about offering bamboo straws with your drinks but some are still offering paper straws which is a big no for a straw girl like me so if you are anti paper straw, I suggest keeping a reusable straw in your bag to break out when necessary (PS, I think it is super cool that all of these restaurants are cutting back on plastic use so I am all for these alternate straw options).  Another good thing to know is water on the island has a bit of a taste to it.  It’s not bad for you but just something you would not be used to if you don’t live there so most restaurants offer canned soda and bottled water (which is not free) so if you usually go for water as a cheaper option, just remember that it is usually bottled and there are no free refills.  My last tip is going to be when to eat where.  All of this is solely my opinion, but since I’ve been eating at Edisto forever, I’d like to think it’s a pretty good one.  So as far as breakfast goes, The Sea Cow is hands how my go to.  They do serve lunch and dinner but I can’t even begin to explain how good the breakfast options are compared to everywhere else on the island (hence why there is always a wait).  For lunch I would suggest heading over to either Whaley’s or Flower’s Seafood Truck, you really can’t go wrong with either place but if you do end up at Flower’s I always suggest bringing a drink with you or getting it to go since it is a food truck.  Lastly is dinner and my two fav options are The Briny Swine and McConkey’s Jungle Shack.  If you are trying to choose between these two it will have to come down to whether you want Seafood or BBQ because they are both amazing.  I would also like to note that McConkey’s has other food on their menu besides seafood which is also really good (except their chicken fingers.  They used to be really good but now they are like frozen Tysons and not worth the money).  I have tried a ton of options there including their salads, burgers, wings and nachos and loved the all but nothing beats their fish tacos in my opinny so that is why I consider them a seafood restaurant.

So let’s get onto the good stuff!  Just a heads up, these are on here in no particular order.  I honestly don’t think I could choose a favorite even if my life depended on it so take that as a hint to try all of these options!!
