Free People Midi + 1 Year Blogiversary

Happy One Year Blogiversary To Us!!!!!

I don’t even know how a year has already flown by.  I seriously feel like it was not long ago that Anna and I sat at her house brainstorming blog names and potential post ideas.  I am not even kidding when I say it took us almost three weeks just to come up with a name.  I still have the notebook full of scratched out names that I love to look through and laugh at.  It has been an experience to say the least, one that I hope I can continue for as long as y’all let me!

Now there have been a few changes that I am sure y’all have noticed.  One of them being that Overdressed and Underrated originally started out with two of us.  When we first started the blog it was the beginning of Summer, I had already graduated and Anna was on Summer break.  It was super easy for us to get together all the time to plan and shoot pictures for posts.  But once school started back for Anna and she got accepted to USC, it got a little more complicated to find time between the two of us where we could plan/shoot pictures.  At first it was a little hard on me emotionally because this was our baby and we seriously spent so much time together making it everything we wanted it to be but the more I thought about it, the more I was able to accept it.  And I just want to be the first to say that I am beyond happy for Anna for pursuing her dreams and putting school first.  It’s 100% what she needed to do and I couldn’t be more proud of her.  With that being said we haven’t split up just yet.  The Summer is just beginning and I am hoping that we might be able to get more content out there of the two of us (fingers crossed) and if not it will be okay!  So stay tuned on that matter, we will most definitely keep y’all updated!

Another changed that happened almost instantly was that when we first started the blog, we decided that Anna would mostly do the shoots and I would do more of the writing/behind the scenes.  I originally thought this would be best because I have a harder time finding cute clothes that fit my body type how I want them to.  So putting together outfits that weren’t super repetitive might have been a little difficult for me.  Although I still have trouble not constantly repeating outfits all the time, I have been able to find some cute pieces, at least enough to keep the posts rolling so that has definitely been a plus!!

So before I wrap this up, I want to thank y’all for sticking with us through this whole adventure.  If for some reason we ever have to stop blogging, this will definitely be a time in my life that I cherish.  Gosh that sounds so sappy, but it’s true.  I love being able to share with y’all what is going on in my life and I’m positive Anna feels the same!  So break out the Champaign ladies, here is to ONE WHOLE YEAR of blogging, and many more to come!!

PS:  Scroll to the end to see what I’ve learned in my first year of blogging!

What I’ve Learned In My First Year Of Blogging

1. Blogging could very easily be a full time job.
I  struggled so hard this past year making sure I had enough content to post plus working my “real” job (I put real in quotations because blogging is easily a real job).  Seriously the amount of time and effort that goes into perfecting not only our blog posts, but Instagram pictures as well is just plain crazy.  It can easily consume your days and even weeks.  There were weeks where my only day I was able to get any blog content was Sunday and I would literally spend the whole day with Jared taking pictures of every outfit I could think up!  For example, I think there was one day where we went to Charleston just to get away for the day and I ended up turning that trip into a full on day of shooting pictures for the blog (we still had a lot of fun that day though).

2. Things often don’t go as planned, but it will be OKAY!
There were plenty of days that I was constantly stressing myself out because I wasn’t able to get an Insta pic up or I forgot to shoot for a blog post for the week.  In my mind this was not acceptable which is so dumb because life happens and sometimes there is nothing you can do about it.  I just have to constantly remind myself of this.

3. I absolutely could not have done this without the help of my husband.
Let me be the first to say that everyone who says Insta/blog husbands are the real troopers behind this lifestyle are 110% correct.  If it weren’t for Jared, I wouldn’t have been able to keep up with everything (to the extend that I did).  Between shooting almost every single picture on here and Instagram to dealing with my anxiety when nothing was going right to listening to me complain nonstop about how I have nothing to wear (this might have been and issue long before the blog was started… it’s whatever), I have never met someone more deserving of an award in my life.  What award? I don’t know, but any award he can get his hands on, he deserves three!!

4. In the end, blogging is just a way to express yourself.
This sounds a little conceded in a way, but in reality this is why Anna and I started the blog in the first place.  We have very similar/complimenting styles and an extreme love for fashion and this seemed like the best outlet to express that!  It’s been learning experience to say the least and almost therapeutic in a way!

Until Next Time,
c
