Mini Vacay: Edisto Beach Recap

Hey y’all!  Don’t mind me, I’m just over here looking at these pics, wishing I was still at the beach.  Ugh, it’s cool though, two and a half more weeks and I’ll be back!

Since we had to reschedule this trip a few times just do to life (and the weather), we didn’t really have much planned other than to just get out of town.  My grandparents have a beach house on Edisto Island that they have literally had since my dad was in college.  I have always been super grateful to have this house in my family because it is always our go to when we want to get away for a little bit.  My dad goes to the beach house all the time and I have been dying to get down there but like I said things kept coming up.  Jared and I always go down for the week of the Fourth (of July), but that is just too far away so we needed to make a trip ASAP.  Edisto has always been my home away from home.  I love how quaint it is.  It is literally the smallest island with nothing to do but lay in the sand and soak up the sun!  It is seriously like my little piece of heaven!

PS: I am working on an Edisto Tavel Guide this summer, so keep an eye out for that!!

What We Did

So Jared and I ended up heading down Friday after work and crashing as soon as we got to the house.  When we woke up on Saturday, it went from being 30% chance of rain, to 90% chance of rain.  So that was fun… I literally was dying to get some sun, but since the rain ruined that we had to find something else to do.  Like I said before it is a small island, so we really don’t have many options of things to do when it rains.  I did notice the day before that in my typical last minute packing fashion, I completely forgot to pack undies.  UGHHH, I always forget atleast one thing, it never fails, but it’s always something small or something I can do without.  Not this time.  So we ended up taking my misfortune and turning it into something to do while it was raining and went to Charleston to find a Target.  Charleston is like 45 minutes to an hour away and the drive is pretty scenic so I wasn’t mad at it.  We made our way to Charleston, did a little shopping, stocked up on undies, and headed back home.

We finally were able to go to the beach on Saturday (sadly for only about an hour, but I’ll take any time I can get in the sun).  After the beach we headed back to the house, showered, and then went to one of the seafood places at the end of the island called Pressley’s.  We only recently discovered this place last year on complete accident!  The Waterfront is our usual go to restaurant for dinner when we are in Edisto, but for some reason we were unable to go there (they were probably packed), so we stumbled across Pressley’s.  Flash forward to now, and it has turned into our go to dinner place!  I was so damn hungry when we got there that I wasn’t able to get a picture of my food before I devoured it!  After dinner, we headed home and laid in the hammocks until bedtime!

HELLO SUNDAY FUNDAY!!
Ugh, I seriously needed Sunday so bad!  The weather was perfect and we spent the majority of the day laying on the beach or floating in the water, the perfect day if you ask me!  Other than that we didn’t to much.  We headed back to the house, watched some baseball and cleaned up, then headed home.  Like I said, nothing too crazy, but it was the perfect mini vacay!!  Exactly what we needed!

What We Ate

Edisto is a tiny island with not many choices when it comes to food.  There is a Subway in the one gas station, a pizza place that keeps changing it’s name, four or five seafood places, an extremely gourmet restaurant called The Post Office, and a BBQ place that I have never been to because I can never tell if it is actually open or not.  There is also a food truck that is attached to a fresh seafood place called Flower’s, it’s a local secret and my absolute favorite.  I rarely go to Edisto and not go to Flower’s for soft shelled crab, however time got the best of us and I wasn’t able to make it this trip.  Its cool thought, I’ll make up for it when we go in July!

We did however go to my other favorite place on the Island, The Seacow.  They have the absolute best breakfast ever.  (I can’t lie, I judge breakfast places on whether they have homefries or hashbrowns!  Homefries = good, hashbrowns = bad!!)  I have been eating there since I was little and it never disappoints.  My only complaint is that the place is very small so there is usually a wait but it’s not really a big deal, there is a cute surf shop in the shopping center that is very good at taking my money.  Jared took me to breakfast before we headed to the beach on Sunday, and I got the same thing I usually get, a bacon and mushroom omelet, homefries (duh!!), and toast.  Jared got the french toast and a side of sausage patties, which I HIGHLY recommend.  But honestly you can’t go wrong with anything you order there!

Before we headed home we decided to grab a bite at one of the local dive bars around the corner from our house called Whaley’s.  This is one of Jared’s favorite places to eat on the island, he loves to get their fried flounder sandwich, which if any of you know my husband, you know that it must be good because he is a strict chicken finger only kinda guy.  (His fried flounder sammie is pictures below, its the one with the big ass piece of fish, yum!).  I got the crab cake sandwich with I often get from here, but it’s hard because they have SO many good things on their menu. If you go and don’t have a huge appetite or are craving a good app, get the sushi nachos, they are to die for!

Until Next Time,
